BioTop Termit are compact grease traps designed for the local treatment of grease-laden wastewater from kitchen sinks and food preparation equipment. They trap free vegetable and animal fats before the water enters the sewer system.
How a Kitchen Grease Trap Works
Inside the unit, the flow slows down: free grease floats to the top, while some of the solid contaminants settle to the bottom. The separated grease and sediment must be removed. A grease trap reduces the amount of grease entering the pipes, but it does not replace biological wastewater treatment.
How to Choose a Model for a Restaurant or Café
Factors to consider include water consumption, the number of sinks in use at the same time and connected equipment, the composition of the wastewater, temperature, and available space for maintenance. Selecting a model based solely on the number of seats is insufficient. The specifications and dimensions of specific models are listed in the existing product sheets.
A large commercial kitchen or restaurant with high peak flow rates may require an industrial BioTop GS. The facility’s intended use alone does not determine the size of the grease trap; the decisive factors are the estimated flow rate and operating conditions.
Proper Use and Cleaning
Do not allow large food particles to enter the unit, and do not pour used oil down the sink. Monitor the buildup of grease and sediment; determine the cleaning frequency based on actual usage and the model’s instructions. Check the unit more frequently if the kitchen is in heavy use.
During maintenance, accumulated grease and sediment are removed, the internal surfaces are cleaned, and the lid seal is inspected. After cleaning, the operating level of clean water is restored according to the instructions. The collected waste is not returned to the sewer system.
Do not use boiling water, solvents, or degreasers as a substitute for mechanical cleaning. Excessive emulsification can cause grease to pass through the separator. Ensure that the cover and connections remain easily accessible.
