Sewage pumping station BIOTOP-KNS is designed for pumping household, rain and industrial wastewater from separate buildings, facilities, towns and cities. The station can be used both as a stand-alone facility and as part of a treatment plant complex. The design of the BIOTOP-KNS casing can be manufactured to any requirements of the customer and regulatory organizations, the station can be equipped with automated screens, crushers, isolation valves with electric drives, as well as the required number of pumping units. To accommodate the necessary equipment, the station casing based on the SWP pipe can be made both as a separate vertical tank with a diameter of up to 3600 mm, and in a double and triple case with the necessary dry zones, service platforms and technical pavilions. The BIOTOP-KNS sewage pumping station can also be made in a horizontal casing for use as part of rainwater treatment plants for accumulating and pumping the daily volume of water, as well as part of peak water flow equalizers in domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plants. BIOTOP-KNS is equipped with the necessary piping, isolation valves, stairs, service platform and pipe coupling systems for installing pumping units, various sensors, automatic control systems, sediment agitation systems, etc.
Types of pumping station casings
Vertical installation
Horizontal installation
According to the type of pumping equipment installation, sewer pumping stations are divided into:
Pumping stations equipped with submersible pumps
Pumping stations equipped with a separate intake chamber with overlap
Pumping stations equipped with a separate receiving tank and dry pumps
Multi-case stations
Sewage pumping stations, depending on the type of pumped wastewater, are divided into:
BIOTOP-KNS (sewage pumping station) for pumping household wastewater, as well as industrial wastewater close to them in composition;
BIOTOP-KNS for pumping groundwater;
BIOTOP-KNS for pumping rainwater.
Depending on the purpose of BIOTOP-KNS, the station is filled with technological equipment. For BIOTOP-KNS domestic sewage, due to the large number of fibrous inclusions, pumps with open impellers, wheels with a cutting edge are characteristic. It is undesirable to use valves with rubber-coated locking parts in isolation valves. Pumping stations for storm and drainage sewers are characterized by open-wheel pumps. Isolation valves can be with rubberized locking elements.
Any design and construction company can contact our constructor department to receive robustness calculations of loads, calculations of the plate against ascent, selection of pumping equipment and many other technical services.
Design, Selection, and Operation of the BioTop Pump Station
Purpose of the station
A sewage pumping station receives and pumps wastewater when gravity flow is not possible. It does not replace a wastewater treatment plant: the required treatment process is determined by the facility’s purpose and the characteristics of the effluent.
Housing, Pumps, and Fittings
The sewage pumping station housing is a cylindrical tank manufactured from spiral-wound polyethylene pipe.
Submersible pumps are lowered into the tank from ground level along guide rails and lifted out along the same rails. During lowering, the pump discharge connects to the fixed discharge elbow through an automatic coupling under the pump’s own weight. Lifting the pump disconnects it from this fixed connection.
Lifting the pump along the guide rails allows it to be detached from its stationary base for maintenance. A basket for trapping large debris, measuring devices, and other components are installed as needed. The illustration shows an example of a design and does not represent the standard configuration of any station.

How Pumps and Redundancy Are Selected
The calculation is based on flow rate and total head: it takes into account the lift height, length, diameter, and resistance of the piping, the composition of the effluent, and the permissible number of starts. The operating point is verified against the performance curve of the selected pump.
The number of operating and standby pumps is determined based on the required reliability and operating conditions of the facility. In a two-pump system, the design may provide for pump rotation and the activation of an additional pump when inflow increases. Flygt pumps are selected based on the specific model and technical specifications.
Automation and Emergency Monitoring
Level sensors transmit signals to the control cabinet to turn the pumps on and off. The design specifies operating and emergency levels, motor protection, high-level alarms, and the necessary interlocks. Control systems and backup power are included in the scope of supply only if specifically agreed upon in the design.
Pump Station Operation and Maintenance
Check the level sensors, alarm system, pump operation, valves, and ventilation. Prevent construction debris and other foreign materials not accounted for in the design from entering the system. Clean the hopper and receiving section at intervals specified by operating conditions and the operating instructions.
In the event of an alarm condition, unusual noise, or vibration, arrange for a diagnostic inspection. Before repairs, shut down the equipment and secure it against accidental startup. Lifting must be performed using standard lifting equipment. Only trained personnel are permitted to enter the pump station in accordance with established safety procedures.
