Flygt — Swedish engineering for water and wastewater

Flygt is a pumping brand with Swedish roots and is part of Xylem. Its story began in Emmaboda, southern Sweden. Today, Flygt develops submersible pumps, mixers and pumping solutions for water and wastewater applications.

A history rooted in Sweden

  1. 1901

A foundry is established in Emmaboda.

  2. 1929

Flygt pump production begins in Emmaboda.

  3. 1947

The first submersible drainage pump is developed.

  4. 1956

The first submersible sewage pump is introduced.

Manufacturing in Emmaboda, Sweden

The factory in Emmaboda includes a foundry, metal machining, pump assembly and testing. These production steps connect pump design with manufacturing and quality checks.

The Flygt Brand and Pumping Technologies

Flygt develops pumping solutions for water management and wastewater treatment. Depending on the series and model, the equipment can be used in submersible or dry-mounted installations. The materials, cooling system, and installation requirements are verified for the selected equipment.

Flygt N-technology reduces the risk of clogging when pumping wastewater containing fibrous materials. Availability and design depend on the pump series and model.

Selection of Flygt Pumps for the Facility

The Q–H curve is used for selection: the required flow rate and total head, taking pipeline losses into account. Additional factors considered include the composition of the effluent, solids content, impeller material, power supply, and installation method. The maximum flow rate and maximum head correspond to different operating points.

Redundancy, operating modes, automation, and maintenance requirements are also specified for the pumping station. Equipment is selected based on the technical specifications and confirmed availability.

Operation and Maintenance of Flygt Pumps

Check the operation of level sensors, protective devices, check valves, and valves. Maintain the cut-in and cut-out levels specified in the design. The cooling mode and permissible operating conditions at low levels are determined by the pump model and the operating instructions.

Stop the equipment in the event of an alarm, unusual vibration, or a leak, and arrange for a diagnostic check. Use the designated lifting device for lifting. Electrical work and maintenance must be performed by qualified specialists after the power has been shut off and measures have been taken to prevent the power from being turned back on.

Installation options for different projects

Depending on the pump series, Flygt equipment can be installed in a wet well or in a dry chamber. The installation method, cooling requirements and maintenance access must match the selected pump and the station design.
