Household water is wastewater generated as a result of human activity. The sources of formation are cities and other settlements, residential micro districts, cottage and rotational camps, industrial sites – any place where a person is present.
Domestic wastewater is characterized by an increased content of organic and suspended solids, as well as other impurities that are dangerous to nature and humans. The main danger is represented by nitrogen and, first of all, phosphorus, which causes eutrophication of water bodies and death of fish. In view of this, before being discharged into reservoirs for various purposes, domestic wastewater must be treated to quality indicators that comply with established standards. One of the key features of domestic runoff is its unevenness during the day, for various objects this parameter can differ significantly.
BIOTOP-KOS includes the following blocks:
Mechanical cleaning block. The structures of this block include manual and mechanical screens, gravity or screw sand traps (with a capacity of more than 100 m3/day), crushers. Mechanical cleaning is designed to remove debris, fibrous inclusions, as well as sand from the domestic drain at high capacities.
Equalizing block. As a rule, the equalizer is a separate container or a dedicated compartment with installed sludge agitators (mixers, aerators) and pumps for pumping the average hourly water flow. The stability of the entire complex of structures depends on the accuracy of selection and calculation of the equalizer. Knowing the operating mode of the facility or the type of building, it is possible to accurately select the required volume of the equalizer, which is often calculated individually for each object.
Biological treatment block, consisting of a multi-stage aerated lagoon, including aerobic and anoxic zones with a recycle of the silt-nitrate mixture. In the biological treatment block, under the action of aerobic bacteria, organic matter is oxidized and nitrogen conversion processes occur – nitrification and denitrification.
Secondary settling block, in which activated sludge is separated from the treated effluent under the action of gravity. Part of the sludge is sent to the beginning of the biological treatment cycle, and excess sludge is pumped to the sludge thickener for further stabilization and dehydration.
Post-treatment block designed to remove phosphorus by coagulation and post-treatment on filters (precipitation and sorption). Chemical removal of phosphorus is currently the only non-alternative method of bringing the runoff to the standards of discharge into reservoirs for various purposes.
Decontamination block equipped with flowing UV lamps.
Sludge treatment block, consisting of a sludge collection tank and a direct dehydrator – bag or screw. To intensify the dehydration process, flocculants are used.
With a high capacity of BIOTOP-KOS facilities, they are equipped with primary settling tanks for clarification of the runoff.
